how do i use a guitar tuner?

Question by C: how do i use a guitar tuner?
i have one for my electric guitar and i'm giong to tune to drop c and i can choose between "C" or "C." (if you didn't notice, one c has a period and the other doesn't) so do i tune the strings to the ones with a dot or without the dot?
